Equip Scholars at TEDS
Up to $15,000 USD per year toward tuition and living expenses for students in the PhD in Theology and Culture at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School at Trinity Western University.
About the Scholarship
The Equip Scholars award provides up to $15,000 USD per year toward tuition and living expenses for students in the PhD in Theology and Culture at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) at Trinity Western University (TWU). The Equip Institute offers this scholarship in partnership with a generous donor whose desire is to support students in this program.
Ninety-five percent of Majority World pastors have no theological training or access to resources. Equip Scholars carries the Equip Institute's work into doctoral study, investing in scholars who intend to train the Ninety-five percent and other church leaders and missionaries around the world through their research, writing, teaching, and training.

Who May Apply
The scholarship is open to any student admitted to or currently enrolled in the PhD in Theology and Culture at TEDS at TWU.
Preference is given to applicants who hold a passport or permit from outside the United States and Canada, and who intend to return and serve in contexts outside these regions.
How the Award Is Paid
The Equip Institute disburses each award in up to three installments per semester. Each installment depends on the scholar remaining in good standing in the PhD program, as determined by the director of the PhD in Theology and Culture. At the director's discretion, funds are paid directly to the student, to the student's account at TWU, or some of each.
Equip Scholars is awarded on a year-by-year basis, depending on available funding. An award in one year does not guarantee an award in a following year. Current scholars may apply again for the next year.
How Scholars Are Selected
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee made up of representatives of the donor organization, which remains anonymous; the CEO and COO of the Equip Institute; and members of the faculty of the PhD in Theology and Culture at TEDS at TWU. Members of the TEDS Dean's Office may also contribute to decisions about who receives the scholarship and whether scholars remain in good standing. The committee considers:
Calling and character. A clear sense of God's calling and a life of mature Christian faith.
Academic promise. A strong academic record and a research direction suited to doctoral study.
Ministry commitment. Experience in serving the church, especially in training pastors, missionaries, and leaders.
Fit with Equip's mission. How the applicant's research and future work will strengthen the global church.
Financial need. The applicant's need after other funding is taken into account.
Other funding must be disclosed. Applicants and scholars must disclose all funding from any other source. Disclosing other funding does not disqualify you, but failing to disclose it risks forfeiting any Equip Scholars funds already disbursed.
